Originally designed as an affordable, agile supersonic fighter, the F-5 gained combat experience in multiple air forces around the world, proving its effectiveness in both air-to-air and ground-attack roles. The Navy’s F-5N variant was refurbished and upgraded with improved avionics, structural enhancements, and compatibility with modern training systems to extend its service life as a dedicated aggressor aircraft.
Aircraft 761533, marked as “Red 117,” served with Fighter Composite Squadron 111 (VFC-111), known as the “Sundowners,” in 2014.
