The Shenyang J-11A is a Chinese-built variant of the Russian Su-27SK Flanker, produced under license and forming a major part of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force’s modernization during the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Designed as a long-range air superiority fighter, the J-11A retained the Su-27’s powerful AL-31F engines, large radar, and impressive maneuverability while serving as one of the PLAAF’s first true fourth-generation fighters.
