HISTORY ASPECTS:
Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk IXe TE565 served with the Royal Air Force’s 310th (Czech) Fighter Squadron during the final phase of World War II, carrying the squadron code NN-N. The Mk IXe variant—equipped with the Merlin 66 engine and the “E-type” wing—was developed to counter the Focke-Wulf Fw 190, giving Allied pilots improved performance at low and medium altitudes. TE565 entered service at a time when the Czech-manned units of the RAF were heavily engaged in escort, interception, and ground-attack operations in support of the Allied push into occupied Europe.
During 1945, TE565 flew missions that contributed to the liberation of Nazi-occupied territories, including armed reconnaissance operations, fighter sweeps, and bomber escort sorties. The 310th Squadron played a key role in disrupting German transport networks, attacking enemy airfields, and providing top cover as Allied forces advanced through the Low Countries and into Germany. Although the war’s final months saw diminishing Luftwaffe resistance, the Spitfires remained active in safeguarding Allied troops from any remaining air threat. Aircraft like TE565 enabled Czech pilots—many of whom had fled their homeland after its occupation—to continue fighting for their country’s freedom while serving under the RAF banner.
After the war ended, TE565 was transferred to Czechoslovakia, where it became part of the newly reestablished post war air force. It served during the transitional years as the nation reorganized its military aviation capability before eventually retiring from operational duty. Today, TE565 is preserved at the National Technical Museum in Prague, standing as a powerful symbol of the Czech airmen who fought with extraordinary dedication in exile and returned home as liberators.
This 1:72 scale model captures the historic markings and elegant wartime lines of the legendary fighter. A perfect addition for collectors of WWII aviation or RAF history, it commemorates the skill and courage of the Czech pilots who flew it and brings an iconic museum aircraft into your display with exceptional detail.
