- With this new rule, Ford sent J-9 over to Kar Kraft to re-body it into an open cockpit Group 7 Can Am racer. Kar Kraft would also install a special 3 valve, all alloy 427 engine. It was then sent to Ford's corporate wind tunnel and Dearborn test track where Mario Andretti would test J-9's limits. Mario would go on record saying that J-9 was one of the scariest cars he ever tested!
